Comparisons
promptev vs Glean
In short
Glean is a mature enterprise search product with permission-aware answers, hundreds of connectors and a quote-only, per-seat contract. promptev also limits every answer to what the asker may see, but it has no seats, publishes its prices, lets agents act through tools with approvals, and can run on your own database, models and storage. Choose Glean for search-first work across a very large estate. Choose promptev to start small, pay for work done, or keep data on infrastructure you control.
Glean and promptev solve the same first problem. A person asks a question, and the answer comes from the company’s own documents, limited to what that person may see. After that first problem, the two products go in different directions.
Where Glean is the better choice
- A very large estate. Glean has more than 275 connectors and a long record in large companies.
- Search first. If the main need is one search box across everything, Glean is built around that.
- Certifications. Glean lists ISO 27001, ISO 42001 and HIPAA. promptev has SOC 2 Type II for the service it runs.
- Hosting choices at scale. Glean offers a customer-hosted deployment in Google Cloud or AWS.
Where promptev differs
- The price is published, and there are no seats. promptev has no seats and no plans. A new workspace gets 2,500 free credits with no card. After that a credit costs $0.005, and you buy from $5. Glean is a per-seat contract that is quoted through sales.
- Agents act, with approvals. A promptev agent uses tools: it can send a message, update an issue or query a database. Each tool has its own approval rule, and a person can decide in the App, by e-mail, in Slack or in the AI app they work in.
- Values are masked before the model reads them. promptev masks e-mail addresses, phone numbers, card numbers and your own patterns in documents and tool results. Glean’s documented policies show or hide a whole document; we found no masking of single values in its documentation.
- Your own database, models and storage. A workspace can keep its knowledge in its own PostgreSQL database and use its own model keys across more than 30 providers.
- The engine is open source. The context engine that enforces who may see what is published under Apache-2.0.

Frequently asked questions
Is promptev a Glean alternative?
Yes, for companies that want answers from their own data with each person's permissions applied. The two differ in shape: Glean is a search-first product on a per-seat contract quoted through sales. promptev is an agent platform with published pay-as-you-go prices and no seats.
Is Glean permission-aware?
Yes. Glean applies source permissions to its answers, and promptev does too. A comparison that says otherwise is wrong. The difference is in pricing, hosting choices and how agents act, not in whether permissions are respected.
How much does Glean cost?
Glean does not publish prices. It is quoted through sales, per seat. promptev publishes its prices: 2,500 free credits to start, then $0.005 a credit, with no seats and no minimum.
Can promptev run on our own infrastructure?
A workspace can use its own PostgreSQL database for knowledge, its own model keys and its own storage. An Enterprise licence can run in your own cloud. The engine that enforces the permission boundary is open source, so you can read it.
